The Hollywood Reporter is...uh, reporting...that geek king
Joss Whedon and
Cloverfield scribe Drew Goddard have turned in a spec script to MGM that has "suddenly became Project No.1". Mary Parent, head of the studios worldwide motion picture group, had this to say about the project:
"It feels great," said Parent, talking excitedly about a possible fall start date.
"It feels really good. It just came in and it was ready to go.
"It was just very fateful," she added. "I couldn't have coordinated it. It just happened. There's other stuff that's percolating, but this just felt great. Honestly, it's one of the most clever and original scripts I've ever read. And I love them. You put the two of them together and it's kind of a dream come true."

Holy. Fucking. Wow. They sure know how to get me excited. Everyone has pretty much kept mum about the plot, but Parent did say this:
"It's an intense visceral thrill ride and I'll leave it at that."
Not a ton to go off of there, but I'll take it. Meanwhile it'll be Goddards first time behind the camera, but with Joss at his side as producer, I've got faith in him.
According to Parent, the movie is slated for a fall start date. I'm guessing we'll see it around October of 2009.
